Woman Up 2026 clinics will take place across multiple Touchstone gyms in California. By expanding beyond a single location, we can reach more of our community and create greater access and opportunities to participate. Interested in what’s being offered? Check out the clinics here. Registration opens on July 1st at noon; mark your calendars! |
Instructor: Katie Malinowski
Bio: Katie has been climbing for 14 years and routesetting for 8 years. Growing up competing in the USA Climbing circuit, Katie also coaches competition climbing and brings a deep understanding of movement and performance to their setting style. They enjoy routesetting because it provides a creative outlet within the sport they love, allowing them to create movement that feels risky and committing for the climber while also appearing flashy and impressive to those observing.
Katie draws inspiration from climbing competitions as well as their outdoor climbing experience. They are excited to share their knowledge and passion for routesetting with women and non-binary climbers, who have historically been underrepresented in the industry. Katie believes that greater representation in routesetting is essential to fostering a healthy and thriving climbing community.
Clinic Description: This clinic covers basic safety, hold selection, hardware use, putting holds on walls, and the intricacies of forerunning, introducing women and non-binary/genderqueer folks to routesetting. No prior experience required! Participants will create their own boulder problem and learn how to fine-tune their masterpiece into a climb they and others will enjoy.
You'll be taught by Touchstone's own routesetters–the same badasses who you've known to set the climbs for Woman Up! Through this process, you will find out how truly difficult it is to assign a grade during the forerunning process. Don't expect to get a certification of some kind after completing this clinic–you won't, but you will get a better understanding of what it takes to be a commercial routesetter.
