Woman Up Setting Clinic

Woman Up Setting Clinic

Woman Up 2026 clinics will take place across multiple Touchstone gyms in California. By expanding beyond a single location, we can reach more of our community and create greater access and opportunities to participate. Interested in what’s being offered? Check out the clinics here.

Registration opens on July 1st at noon; mark your calendars!

Instructor: Zoey Grinstead

Bio: Zoey (she/they) enjoys the classics: long walks on the beach, watching the sunset, and heinous 40-meter rope-stretching crimp lines. Commonly met with, “Oh, you’re the Zoey who set that climb,” her style revolves around either absurdly flexible movement or straightforward, brutally hard crimping — often both at once. She specializes in the kind of setting that makes you ask, “I put my foot… where?!”

Outside the gym, Zoey and her girlfriend spend plenty of time sliding down mountains and then complaining that climbing somehow doesn’t prepare you for skiing. You can usually find her at local Los Angeles sport crags, setting for one of the many gyms she works with, hosting her monthly Queer Crush meet-up and advocating for the queer climbing community — or, more realistically, sitting at her computer playing video games and eating fried chicken.

Clinic Description: This clinic covers basic safety, hold selection, hardware use, putting holds on walls, and the intricacies of forerunningintroducing women and non-binary/genderqueer folks to routesetting. No prior experience required! Participants will create their own boulder problem and learn how to fine-tune their masterpiece into a climb they and others will enjoy.

You'll be taught by Touchstone's own routesetters–the same badasses who you've known to set the climbs for Woman Up! Through this process, you will find out how truly difficult it is to assign a grade during the forerunning process. Don't expect to get a certification of some kind after completing this clinic–you won't, but you will get a better understanding of what it takes to be a commercial routesetter.
